Joe began his career in law enforcement on September 24, 1973 as a proud member of the Detroit Police Department. Throughout the next 26 years, he worked various details until his retirement as a Lieutenant on July 7, 1999. In 2001, Joe decided that retirement wasn’t for him, and started his own investigative and security firm called J-Mack Agency.

Joe enjoyed many activities in his lifetime. He began jogging in 1974 and ran four marathons in the 1970s to the early 1980s. That wasn’t enough for Joe. In the mid 1980s, he began to lift weights to stay in shape, but started to steer himself towards bodybuilding. In the late 1980s to the early 1990s, he competed in numerous bodybuilding competitions.

Although he kept himself extremely busy, nothing gave Joe more pleasure than coaching and refereeing. He was an MHSAA official for over 40 years. As an outstanding basketball and football referee who had the chance to officiate many state finals, he was inducted into the Detroit Catholic League Coaches Hall of Fame as an official in 2004.

Joe’s coaching career began in 1970 and ended in the fall of 1993. In that span, he coached the St. Clare of Montefalco girls’ basketball team (1978-810), Dominican High School girls’ track team (1981-83) and countless basketball teams through the Detroit Police Athletic League. But by far, his proudest coaching accomplishments came while coaching football and basketball at Detroit St. Matthew from 1991-1993. In recent years, he has come out of retirement to serve as a “Special Assistant/Superfan” for the Grosse Pointe South High School boys’ lacrosse team and has motivated and inspired an entirely new generation of young men to give 100% at all times like he did.

Although he was extremely active and completely devoted to anything he was involved in, his true passion revolved around spending time with his large and extremely loving family. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by the ones he loved while laughing, joking, and enjoying a good meal.

Beloved husband of Deborah. Proud father of Justin. Dear brother of Agnes White (Hershel), Gloria Ladd, Sadi Edge, Aiai Perl (Uwe), Cathy Bruci, and Raymund Macksoud (Roseanne). Brother in-law of Rebecca Brown. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
